A lot of you have been nice enough lately to ask “what I’m wearing”…
After 30 years on camera, I’ve learned a little about what works (and doesn’t work!) on TV and in photographs.
Periodically, I want to share some of those pics and tips with you.
I tend to fall in love with my favorite dresses and keep them in my closet to wear over and over.
This Versace gingham is from last season but it seemed perfect for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Wells Fargo Derby I emceed at Lone Star Park!
I try to stay current because I think looking modern is part of staying young at heart. For me right now that means hemlines that fall just at or below the knee.
To interview Neiman Marcus Senior Vice-President and Fashion Director Ken Downing at his fabulous mid-century modern home in Kessler Park, I combined a Versace skirt (again from last season) with a favorite black leather jacket. I wanted to be ladylike but “on trend”.
Maybe my favorite label is ‘Leonard Paris’ because the dresses are timeless. I’m wearing a soft cream, yellow and bronze Leonard in this shot with 7 time “Military Photojournalist of the Year” Jeremy Lock at his Burning Man Exhibit at Edo Popken in the Dallas Design District.
We all like to feel like Cinderella sometimes and that’s exactly how it seemed, standing beside “Lady Magic”, Nancy Lieberman, regarded as one of the greatest figures in women’s basketball at the Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational Gala benefiting Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities. Did you know Nancy lives right here in Dallas?
Red is one of my favorite colors on camera. The gown is Giambattista Valli. I wore a Dolce & Gabbana “Sacred Heart” pendant necklace and the clutch is Chloe that I bought about 10 years ago.
I’ve put a few other favorite looks from the past couple of weeks in the slideshow above.
The first shot is that same Giambattista Valli gown. In the second pic I’m standing with our brave Dallas Fire-Rescue team at an equally brave cause, the annual Children’s Cancer Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show. I’m wearing a Matthew Williamson red floral.
The terrific hat I wore to judge other hats at the Lee Park Junior Conservancy Lucky No. 7 Day at the Races is from Shane Walker’s Purple Reign on Cedar Springs in Dallas.
Jackets are making a bit of a comeback so I paired a Dolce & Gabbana floral I like with a black Versace skirt for my Genesis Women’s Shelter Mother’s Day Luncheon interview with guest speaker Maria Shriver.
Sometimes I run out of dress ideas so I put a red Etro sweater with a red Versace skirt from last season for our “Good Morning Texas” interview with Cake Boss Bobby Valastro.
And finally, when I want to wear something that I think is fun, pretty and I feel certain I’m going to look appropriate in I usually pick a favorite ‘Leonard Paris’ dress out of my closet. That’s what I wore for my interview with President Bush and I hope it looked just right!
If you notice I mention “last season” a lot that’s because I’ve learned over the years that great clothes don’t go out of style. I buy good labels but a lot of times I wait until the next season to pick them up on sale. They are still great clothes.
Carla Martinengo in Preston Center is my shop of choice.
I hope a couple of these tips have been helpful, and if you have any questions about what looks good on camera or putting outfits together, I’d be happy to try and answer them here. Just post them in the comments below and I’ll see what I can do!
Have a great day,
Jane,
LOVE the Leonard Paris dress you are wearing in the photo with Jeremy Lock! You look fantastic! It complements your hair and complexion so well.
Susan
Thank you Susan, appreciate the nice thoughts!
RED is definitely one of your colors…….you always look so ”put together” I agree, good pieces last for a very long time. I always
enjoy anything you post on fashion…..especially where to find unusual clothing. The Marie Shriver piece was most interesting.
Continue sharing good things with your watchers and readers! Pat
Thanks so much Pat! Have a great evening.
