The Ray Rice video is much more disturbing than I expected.
I thought he would deliver a jab at his fiancee and she might jab back.
But Rice throws a punch so hard that she slumps, then falls to the ground. She doesn’t get up. It is sickening.
But here is what I really want to know. How did the NFL not get the video TMZ has? Not accusing anybody here, but I’m puzzled. I don’t understand why the release of that initial video 8 months ago showing Rice dragging his fiancee’s body away from the elevator door didn’t lead the NFL to the entire video. I want to know what you think about that.
In what may be the understatement of the year, both Rice and his now wife appear to have some problems. Ray Rice is out of a job. And the NFL has it’s own issues. TMZ maintains the NFL could have requested the same video. We’ll watch this unfold.
For now, if nothing else, I urge you to talk to your kids tonight about Ray Rice. And about the NFL.
And, tell me what you think. Why did the NFL not have that video?
Thank you,
Jane, I am still upset about Josh Brent being back on week 11. Jerry is too lax and so is the NFL. (Just saying).
My son said he had seen parts if it so I don’t understand the NFL
i NFL is so screwed up. this guy ought to be out until his trial and after… i guess taking those PID’s is considered a greater crime…
Let’s see what move the NFL makes now Randy. It’s their opportunity.
This guy is a real tool Jane!! He should be banned for life. He did it once and he will do it again!!!
It appears he really needs help Joe.
I think someone , somewhere decided not to release the footage we are seeing now. . Until now. .
It’s obvious that it was filmed at the same time.
So why release it now? The NFL can claim they didn’t have access to it. . Or they never asked for it? Maybe they just assumed it would go away after the 2 game suspension was handed down.
I would like to knoW tony
Maybe someone was paying someone to keep it hidden and then decided not to pay anymore so the video was put out there.
Possibility Katrina.
Harvey Levin:“When you wake up tomorrow and go to our web site, you will see what the NFL didn’t do,” he said. “I have gotten conflicting stories on this, and we have some people saying [the league] saw this, but I now believe they actually turned a blind eye to it, and it’s a shameful story. The NFL knew this surveillance video existed. They knew that this casino had surveillance video. I know they knew that, and we will explain later why we know they knew that, but they did — and they didn’t do anything to look at this video.”
Thank you Mike, I had not seen that.
The video from the security cameras exposed an element within the subculture of professional athletes that usually doesn’t make it to TMZ. This is super-elite boy’s club that usually has ways to make these things go away.
The assault was brutal and the girlfriend is now his wife. Why would she marry him?
In my opinion Melissa, because he is not the only one with some serious issues. I never like to judge from the outside looking in, but statistics show that women who tolerate abuse have incredibly low self-esteem. Very sad.
What I don’t understand is that the Collective Bargaining Agreement states that you can ONLY be punished Once either from your Team or the NFL Commission. So how are they able to suspend him indefinetly, if they already gave him a 2 game suspension? I believe there is NO excuse for what he did, but he needs help!
Thanks Lisa, for doing your research and sharing. I’m not sure about the answer to that, but I will try to check. Rules are rules, you’re right. No matter who they apply to.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the NFL actually did have it. But, because they botched things up so badly first time around, it was “leaked” in order to allow them to revisit the matter.
Know what you mean Bil, I don’t know if we’ll ever learn the truth. Thanks for commenting!
I agree Bill, I believe they saw it long ago. I give that marriage a year…max!
I doubt the Ravens and the NFL will admit to seeing the video prior to yesterday’s release. But I believe both entities were aware of its’ contents. Their reaction was because of the public outcry. Each knew what happened, why did they have to see it (this latest video) to take the appropriate action. I feel for this family and hope the best for them. As a 31 year retired police officer I have observed the effects of domestic violence many many times. I have also observed families afflicted with anger issues overcome them. The NFL commissioner was criticized for his soft handling of the Rice case, and deservedly so. Now with everyone seeing what happens to thousands of women daily, he must find a way to correct his outlandish decision. And maybe keep his job.
Great perspective Mike, thanks so much. I hope the members of the Rice family will get treatment.
I am not convinced that the NFL and Baltimore didn’t see the tape inside the elevator. I am afraid it is another situation where the football player is set on such a high pedastal they are above behavior the rest of the worldis expected to follow. I could not believe how disrespectful he was when he was getting her out of the elevator. It was as though he was moving a bag of trash. I agree boys should be taught about that type of behavior and that it is unacceptable but I also believe our girls need to be taught the same thing. A woman just cannot have self confidence about herself when she is physically and/or mentally abused. Being a good southern girl I wondered if his wife had brother or a dad and why they did not intervene? I do believe the answer to this question is “money”. Football would not have been his biggest problem if it had been me in the elevator.
So true about a woman’s feeling about herself.
