When Maria Shriver walked into the room I said “We both have November birthdays!”

I remembered that because I grew up thinking Maria and her famous cousin Caroline Kennedy (who also happens to have a November birthday) were pretty cool.

Maria went on to become a journalist for NBC, got married to movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger, had four children, became First Lady of California and then went through a very public and humiliating separation from her husband.

The Maria I interviewed was friendly, open, wiser for all that has happened…and I really liked her.
