I was sitting with my boyfriend at dinner when I got an idea…”Can you google the house where you grew up? I would love to see it!”
*
Then it occurred to me how fun that could be for anybody! What does the house *you* grew up in look like now?
*
My house was a modest one story with one bathroom for our family of four.  The address was “Apple Lane” because we literally had an orchard in the backyard. I remember coming inside from playing on a hot and humid Illinois summer day and laying down on the floor under the attic fan in our only hallway to cool off.

My boyfriend grew up in a 2-story Victorian in Oakland, “west” Oakland, as he always points out. The photo of the well kept home gave me a window on his early life I otherwise couldn’t imagine. I could see him wandering up the front steps after school and dropping his backpack inside before heading to the fridge for something to eat.

My memories of waiting with my Mom in our tiny kitchen for my Dad to come home for a family dinner or peeking anxiously out my bedroom window for my date to pick me up will always be the first things that come to mind, but these days a simple “Google” is a snapshot of our lives.

Have you Googled where you grew up? Does the picture look like the house in your imagination?
