There are a handful of restaurants where I have an excellent meal…
every time I go.
Places where the food is always excellent, the service is always good and I leave feeling like it was worth the money.
I’m going to be showing you the dozen or so I really like here on Real Jane. Last night I went to one of them: S&D Oyster Company and I remembered why it is one of my favorite places to eat.
S&D’s oysters are so good and fresh…delicious. And can you ask for better service than Cindy making our red sauce at the table? Several of S&D’s staff have been here for more than a dozen years.
Broiled trout and snapper with simple cole slaw and perfect french fries. S&D’s lemon pie is just about as good as it gets. And if you love bread pudding like I do…
The S&D building was built as a grocery in 1891 and opened as a restaurant in 1976. Right now they’re building an outdoor patio and additional dining space. Hopefully the food and the atmosphere won’t change.
Do you have a “go to” restaurant that you want to tell me about? Please tell me about it in the comments below. I’d like to try it! Should I call these the “DFW Dozen”? What do you think?
Thanks for your help and if you have a free night this weekend, check out S&D Oyster Company. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Sincerely,
Urban Rio in Plano. It’s not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant, but the menu offers a selection of various dishes, with a fusion of different flavors, designed to enhance the taste of the food. The Guava-Habanero margaritas are delicious! Definitely worth trying.
Have to try that one Sol, thanks!

I would love to meet you there sometime!
Thank you Lisa, did you say brisket tacos? Mmmmmmm:)
I second Lisa’s comments on Casa Mama’s.
My go-to favorite is their brisket tacos during happy hour! Let’s have a taco Tuesday, Jane!!!
Why would I wait for a table for over an hour in Boyd, Texas? This restaurant has no outdoor garden, or bar. But what it has is the freshest, tastiest, creations Chef Kraig Thome can create. This BYOB oasis offers made from scratch creations not found anywhere else. Chef Kraig is resident chef working in the kitchen every night. His personal touch is always evident in every dish. His lovely wife, Lettie, manages the front of the house. Will I continue to wait? You bet. It is my favorite restaurant. It is so refreshing to see a non corporate chain restaurant offering truly made from scratch food succeed. The wait proves others agree, too.
What is the restaurant called?
What’s the name of it Rhonda? Would love to try it!
It’s Go Go Gumbo. I went to high school with Kraig and we worked together at the Fort Worth Boat Club back in the 80’s. He was cooking great food back then. It’s amazing Jane. You have to try it sometime.
Thanks Chuck!
Piranha Killer Sushi (2 locations in Arlington and 1 in Sundance Square) never fails to satisfy by sushi cravings. My favorite appetizer is the salmon ceviche. They also have a great salad with sliced tomatoes, blue cheese, balsamic vinegar and mixed greens. It’s hard to choose which rolls to order – many unique combinations. My favorites are the Forget About It and the Vietnamese Summer Roll. It’s always fresh and expertly prepared. Service is professional and friendly. And don’t miss out on their AMAZING martinis! Try the chocolate martini for dessert (the rim is covered with chocolate mousse – yum!).
I know their sushi is good Lori but that salad sounds amazing thanks!
My best restaurant is Cafe Pacific. I know that every time I go.. It will be delicious, the service will be impeccable and the staff so kind and friendly and the Price is Right!.. The best seafood to me in the city… !
Has always been one of my favorites Yvonne, thanks 🙂
One of our family’s favorite restaurants is the Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. This is a casual set down restaurant where you feel at home when you walk in. The food is fresh and served family style. It is not only chicken, but chicken friend steak along with other great meat items. Babe’s is located in Garland, Sanger, Carrollton, Burleson, Grandbury, Frisco, Cedar Hill and Arlington. We frequent the Garland location most of the time. When visiting the Garland location … tell Rick the manager “hello”.
I love Babes Raenell:)
JC’s Burger House – Richardson.
Sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and get your burger on. I always quench that craving at JC’s Burger House. Why?? Very simple. Quality! They only use top notch, first rate, premium meat. They actually grind the beef on the same day it is served. Some of my favorites are the Toddzilla (triple meat, triple cheese w/ bacon), beer battered onion rings and tots.
Mouth watering standouts – DO NOT MISS the chili, sweet potato fries and the ice cold, thick shakes made with Texas Blue Bell Ice Cream.
I’ll take one of each Audie:)
Love your site here Jane. In all of the craziness and uncertainty of today’s world, it is so refreshing to come across a special experience of any sort. These comments are a testament that not all is lost in our country. It is still made up of hard working, dedicated and fearless individuals who will stop at nothing to succeed and contribute to their fellow citizens. This is what enabled my experience at JC’s Burger House. I realize I’m talking about a cheeseburger here. LOL. But, I believe that small business’s are the backbone of this country. They are what made it great. Although, it seems many have forgotten, these are the people who will ensure it’s success and glory far into the future.
I’m gonna have to try have a burger. Address please?
Here you go Jane. The owners name is Sondra.
JC’s Burger House

THanks!
DeVivo Bros. Eatery in Keller. Everything I’ve tried there was good. But my favorite is their cheeseburger. If you are always looking for the next good burger in town, you might want to try theirs.
I am and I will Don, thanks!
For BBQ, I love The Slow Bone on Irving Blvd. For seafood, Rex’s on Lovers lane is hard to beat.
I just posted something about Rex’s Mike, take a look!
Bills Oak Acre BBQ on West side of FW is some of the best BBQ you will find, and brisket tacos on Tuesdays are delicious
I need to try that Mike, thanks!
Spiral Diner & Bakery, Jane! Two locations Ft. Worth and Oak Cliff near Bishop Arts. The entire menu is Vegan, but this is not your average Vegan menu. Some of my favorites are Spaghetti & Meatballs, Supreme Nachos, and the Cashew-Quinoa Burger! Of course, their baked goods are phenomenal, and so is their ice cream! Remember, it’s all Vegan and it’s all DEE-LISH. All of my carnivore friends and family have enjoyed it.
If the nachos are supreme, I’m there Staci! Thanks:)
