There are aย lot of good Mexican food restaurants in DFW, butย my favorite may just be…
El Asadero.
The last time I went to El Asadero on North Main Street in Ft. Worth it was packed. Itโs always full, and most of the time the people eating there are speaking Spanish. This is a family owned gem.
The queso is the kind you find in Mexico. Itโs made with asadero cheese and chorizo and you might gain 5 pounds just looking at it! But it is delicious.
The guacamole, chips and salsa are just the best Iโve had anywhere. We ordered mixed fajitas, a cheese enchilada, beef taco, beans and rice and every bite was delicious.
Iโm not a food critic, but I do like to eat and this is one of my top 3 when it comes to Mexican food restaurants in North Texas. Whatโs your favorite place to eat Mexican food? Please tell me in the comments below. Iโd love to learn about a new place to try this weekend!
I think I gained a pound just looking at the picture of all that yummy, gooey queso!
OMG that photo makes my mouth water. I like MesoMaya in Dallas at Preston and Forest.
Have not tried that but will! Thanks Liz ๐
It all went to my hips ๐
Try Del Norte in Godley, Texas. It is the BEST!!
Thanks Rosemary!
I have only eaten @ El Asadero a few times and the salsa was so hot I couldn’t eat it, and I like hot food. But the food was good!
I have been going to El Rancho Grande on Main St. for 40+ years, so it must be one of my fav’s. Also, Tres Casa’s in downtown Keller is great! Very fresh salsa and ridiculously low prices. BYOB.
I like it hot Mike!

Likewise, I’m not a published critic BUT, I have years of experience eating. Those near my age will remember when all our Mexican restaurants were family owned, crackers on the table and cheese enchiladas were the staple. I’m always seeking out a new (old) mom and pop. So, if you are ready for enchiladas and don’t mind the weight, you neex to visit Mary Perez @ Enchiladas Ole. Just north of Race St on Sylvania. I dare you to try her mole’
. . . and take home a couple jars of her sauces
OK thanks!
auto correct- weight / wait
but it might be Freudian
lol
I think you had it right the first time.

Don’t really have a favorite, however if it’s Mexican food I am gonna try it!
My thoughts exactly Rick!
I am currently exiled in North Dakota temporarily….where bad Mexican food is better than no Mexican food.
Sorry Linda ๐
I, too am exiled…to the Seattle area for 496 more days until I retire. Oh, how I am sick of Salmon and horrible restaurants. No decent Mexican food anywhere. I just will not go to the cookie-cutter Mexican food restaurants here – I can cook better than they can.
So many new restaurants on my “bucket list”…Taco Diner, Bird Cafe to name a couple.
Bird Cafe is cool !
Probably my favorite-especially for value is Miguelitos in Krum. I also like Esparzas in grapevine and joe T Garcia, But will try this one you suggested!
Can’t beat Joe T for the atmosphere John ๐
That’s very nice of you, Jane. My mom used to say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then keep your mouth shut.” I never learned that lesson. That patio is to die for…..taking Jane’s cue, that is all I have to say about that.
Jane you’re absolutely right! I’m always on the hunt for great Mexican food in the Metroplex. So far; El Asadero; is the best hands down in Fort Worth. They have the best pork chops I have ever had in my life! And yes; there is always a crowd and its worth the wait to get a table there. I have to agree with Mike that El Rancho Grande is really good, but El Asadero gets the Blue Ribbon in my book. If you don’t mind the drive, go to El Ranchito on Jefferson Blvd in Dallas. It’s very, very good as well. The food is excellent but the dueling Mariachi bands can get a little overwhelming.
Wow! Didn’t even try the pork chops Kevin but I will, thanks!
I love reading the suggestions! That’s the way I found Casa Rita’s in Frisco and we love it!
Me too! Patty ๐
I did not mean to be anonom
When I worked near downtown I would eat at El Asadero at least 2 times a week. I’ve tried many dishes on their menu and they are all good. The salsa is very hot and they have a hotter version if you prefer. The biggest drawback to El Asadero is there is not much parking but if you can get in it’s good food and friendly service.
Ditto!
I will try the one U suggested plus another one someone wrote about.
If U make it down to Granbury PLZ try
La Fiesta. It is a FAVORITE of mine.
Great food & the Salsa is to die for,
+ the staff are all great.
Thanks Shirley!
My local favorite is Salsa Fuego. I’ve tried many different items, even the burgers, and have never left disappointed.
I’ll try Jennifer!
Not sure what happened to my post on Fernando’s in Dallas…Its a must try place to go..
I’ve never had bad Mexican food I didn’t like.
Lol me too Rose ๐
Oh Jane, I am so very happy to have found you here. Mexican food, my favorite. Yes, listen to Bill and do try Enchiladas Ole. Her food is some of the very best and she is in there in the kitchen preparing it for us as if we were all her family. Her sauces allow you to make your own and I keep a couple of jars in the fridge so that I can make enchiladas any time I have a sudden need for Mexican food Now!
Haha Linda, we’ll there’s always breakfast tacos! Thanks for the tip on Enchiladas Ole and thanks for signing up for Real Jane!
I love Avila’s on Maple in Dallas. The hottest salsa around!
Esparza’s in Grapevine is awesome.
El Ranchito is very authentic and delicious in Dallas on Jefferson.
Truth is there is no bad Mexican food! The best chips hands down is El Fenix.
Especially the original downtown El Fenix!
I have been going to Mexican Inn since the 60’s, mainly for the (frito-like) chips. Am anxious to try the new one on Hulen Street.
Me too, Dottie. I love that place ๐
I have eaten at the new Mexican Inn on Hulen St. twice. It is awesome food with great service.
I’ll have to try that James.
I hate to admit it, but I eat Mexican at least once a week. Love it! So many places in Dallas to choose from. I live in Frisco, so I will center on Frisco/Plano. Someone mentioned Casa Rita in Frisco – yummy! I really like Mi Cocina at the Shops at Legacy, Mambo Taxi heaven, not to mention my favorite place for chicken fajitas (love the potato slices). Some old standbys are Chuys, Blue Goose, Cantina Laredo and Tupys. These are the ones that I frequent the most since they are pretty close to my house.
Now I’m hungry Patty!
Frankie’s in Sachse is extremely good. Everything on the menu rocks!
Thank you Laura, some great ideas here!
Frankie’s in Sachse is AMAZING!!! Not your typical Mexican food – everything on the menu is unique – but it’s the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, outside of Mexico! I’m originally from Southern California, and I’ve really missed real genuine Mexican food, since I’ve moved to Texas. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the recommendations on here.
That sounds really good Lizzie:)
I live NW of Fort worth. Near Weatherford and Azle. We really enjoy El Cerreo Mexican Rest. off 730 n, past Azle. It is all really good food.
thanks Shelley!
I grew up in an Hispanic neighborhood; eating real tortillias, mole, and menudo when I was invited to eat at a friend’s house. Let’s just say I know Mexican food. My favorite place to eat Mexican food is at Mexican Inn. They make a great brisket taco, and I can order off the menu to get a chicken breast with sourcream sauce and Monterey Jack if I want. I also really like their fritos. We were in withdrawal for awhile when they tore down the old restaurant on 183 until they rebuilt a new one recently. We had to drive all the way downtown in the meantime. Try it if you haven’t yet.
Jack, I love Mexican Inn’s brisket taco!!
I can eat my way through Mexican food places..and have..but I’m from the south side and have eaten at Benito’s for years..that chile relleno and enchilada con mole Rojo and those Sopes..darn fine food..oh and that chicken rice soup!!!!.. Can eat there several times a week..true Monterray Mexican food.
Sounds good Roxie!
I’m a FW gal, but have never been to El Asadero. Will definitely give it a try! We LOVE the enchiladas at The Original on old Camp Bowie. Great margaritas too.
I think you’ll really like it! Thanks for the comment.
when I was little, we got to pick our birthday restaurant and mine was always Casa Lindas El Fenix….. Still love it and try to still visit when not quite as busy… Lol old memories are the best memories…..
JANE – Meso Maya downtown Dallas is the bomb as is La Ventana behind it. However, that’s only good Monday – Friday when I’m at work so on the weekends (in Sachse) we LOVE us some Frankie’s on Hwy 78. DeLiShOuSnEsS!!
Ok you got my curiosity up Cary! I’m gonna try, Jane
